About the Network

Environmental history as a discipline has reached varying degrees of institutional support in the Nordic countries.  This network aims to support knowledge exchange and professional development of environmental historians across borders and institutions. The participants include researchers and students in five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Through a series of workshops we will discuss how to grow environmental history as a discipline, discuss how Nordic environmental history can and should be written, make a concrete plan for educating our future researchers, and identify future collaborative projects and funding sources.

The workshop series is generously funded by a Nordforsk Researcher Network Grant, 2009-2011, and is coordinated by Finn Arne Jørgensen, Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
