This workshop will discuss possible institutional models for environmental history in the Nordic countries.
The workshop will feature:
– Keynote 1: Hilde Ibsen, Associate Professor, Karlstad University, Sweden: Experiences with trying to establish environmental history in Norway in the 1990s
– Keynote 2: Verena Winiwarter, Professor of environmental history, Klagenfurt University: Building a Center for Environmental History
– Four discussion sessions:(1) The state of Nordic environmental history, (2) Finding a place for environmental history Topics and sites, (3) Organizational and institutional models, (4) Preparing the future workshops
The invited speaker, Verena Winiwarter, has created an Austrian Center for Environmental History (ZUG) which acts as a virtual platform for an Austrian environmental history network. It acts an information platform for scholars and research institutions in Austria to promote of environmental history as an integrative effort among scholars and students with a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds. The participants will discuss the ZUG
model along with other potential frameworks for environmental history research.
